Bay Area ROCKS

I promise promise promise I will post December and January playlists, but had to get this off my chest first:

I went to the website for Slim’s to see about getting tickets to Swervedriver. And as I read through their upcoming shows I saw two of my favorite words…NOISE POP!!!

It is not so much the festival itself that gets me excited (although it is awesome, and this year is the 20th Anniversary), as much as it acts as a reminder that about this time of year, especially from around February through April, just about every interesting active band comes through town at least once, by virtue of (in the case of those who are not “local”) having traveled westward for either SXSW, or NOISEPOP, or Coachella, or that other festival thingee in LA that I can’t ever remember what it is called. Here is a sampling of shows coming up in the next few months that bear serious consideration (no doubt an incomplete list):

Ty Segall, Mezzanine SF, 1/18

Weekend, New Parish Oakland, 2/1

Eleanor Friedberger, the Independent SF, 2/4

HurryUp Shotgun, the Hemlock SF, 2/4 (uh-oh, this won’t be the only day where there is more than one great show to see!…)

Persephone’s Bees (are they still any good?), Cafe du Nord SF, 2/20

NOISEPOP 2/21-2/26: tons of great shows, and a ton of bands I have never heard of, many of which are probably bitching and I will be investigating soon!!!!

Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Slim’s SF, 2/28

Ty Segall, Slim’s SF, 3/2

Michael Gira, Slim’s SF, 3/15

of Montreal w/Deerhoof, Slim’s SF, 3/21

The Wedding Present, the Independent SF, 4/1

Swervedriver, Slim’s SF, 4/6

Jeff Mangum, Fox Oakland, 4/9-10

Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Slim’s SF, 4/16-20

WU LYF, the Independent SF, 4/17

St. Vincent, Fox Oak, 4/24

  1. Dude, you forgot Hudson Bell on 1/21. The best of them all, obviously.

  2. My bad, I did in fact remember it midstream, but then forgot again!!!
    I will be there…

  3. Bob Mould @ Slims, 2/25. Bottom of the Hill (2/24) sold out.
